Ich spreche kein Netzwerkisch, darum brauche ich eure Hilfe. Ich möchte 15 Räume (Vereinsräume) in einem Kellerflur mit LAN und WLAN ausstatten. In allen Räumen und auf dem Flur sind Netzwerkdosen vorhanden.
Es gibt keine always-on Geräte wie Server oder NAS. Die Geräte brauchen auch untereinander nicht zu kommunizieren, sondern sollen lediglich eine Internetverbindung herstellen können.
Was benötige ich? Eine Router (reicht da ne Fritz Box?) einen Switch und eine Hand voll Access Points?
Gibt es etwas worauf ich achten muss? Ist da alles mit allem kompatibel? Kann ich was kaputt machen?

Meine kleien Friendica Instanz lief zuerst auf einem kleinen vPS mit 1 CPU und 2 GB RAM. Aber das war dann doch etwas zu wenig. Das Doppelte darfs schon sein 😏

- What tools do you use?
- How often do you backup the database?
- How long do you save the backups?
- What else?

So here the whole system is backed up.
A snapshot of the system is taken at a certain point in time, after which the backup is created. After the backup, the snapshot is deleted.
Afterwards, the backup is encrypted and transferred to an additional data centre.
The schedule looks like this:
every weekday,
4 weekly backups,
Six monthly backups
and one annual backup.
Every Backup is transfered to a VM host and boots up.
If the boot in a vm failes, another backup is taken and verified.

I have a warning in the logs that seems not to be a problem of friendica but to my mysql configuration. Or is something wrong here with the code?

@Matthias Moritz 2023-03-29T12:31:21.121473646Z isn't a valid date/time format because of the amount of decimals of the seconds number. We've been adding local fixes for a number of invalid date/time strings and this warning has been useful collecting them in the first place.
However, it doesn't impact Friendica's working much, we just replace invalid date/time string with the current timestamp. It could theoretically show that a post was created later than it actually was, but it isn't technically critical.

There was a bug recently where every uploaded image was set to "private" by default.
You can find the Issue here:
The bug was fixed on February 7th.
I have been able to use the image upload since the Issue was fixed and by default the images are also public after upload.
You can check and change the permissions of an image as follows:
If you open the dropdown menu at the top right of your name, you can select (click on) a picture in the menu item "Pictures" and then click on the edit pencil at the top right of the picture.
On the page that appears now, you have the link to the permissions at the bottom directly above the button "send". There you can see if the image is private and if necessary change it to public.

I moved my Friendica Instance to a (hetzner) cloud vps. Migration was streight forward. But now I don’t receive mail notifications. In the Logs I find only a notice that a Mail was sent.
What could be wrong?

With msmtp you can use any email account that supports SMTP (even gmail does). If you want an email service hostet with your domain, there is many that offer such services, for example INWX.

If i follow this step to run a virtual enviroment with vagrant, this just do not longer work (I think since one of the commits for 23.1 maybe earlier). Is this a unfortunate individual fate or do other experience the same?
Vor ein paar Wochen waren mal wieder Fusionskraftwerke in den Medien, weil irgendwem irgendein Durchbruch gelang. Ich wollte dazu irgendwas ins Internet schreiben, habs dann aber wieder vergessen. Weil ich jetzt aber Durst habe und meine Wasserflasche am Schreibtisch leer ist, fällts mir wieder ein. Also los:
Fusionsreaktoren sind thermische Kraftwerke und brauchen Wasser zur Kühlung bzw. zum Betrieb. Das haben sie mit Atomkraftwerken gemeinsam die letzten Sommer teilweise gedrosselt werden mussten, weil Kühlwasser fehlte. Wenn man davon ausgeht, dass ich die Erde weiter erwärmt und Fusionsreaktoren noch einiger Jahrzehnte Forschung benötigen, würde ich jetzt davon ausgehen, dass die Technik obsolet ist, bevor sie eingesetzt werden kann.

Wir haben hier eins der größten Braunkohlekraftwerke vor der Haustüre - und das arbeitet ohne Frischwasserzufuhr (OK - ein bisschen von einem Fluss) und hat zwei Kühltürme. Dort kann das Kühlwasser mit ein bisschen Ergänzung immer wieder verwendet werden.
Kühlwasser muß als kein KO-Kriterium sein.
Wenn das Kraftwerk allerdings von HAus aus auf Kühlung nur durch Flusswasser (wie in F) ausgelegt ist, ja dann ist es halt Mist

looks like a client connection is idle but a transaction is still running.
You could add the following to your MySQL.conf file:
interactive_timeout = 60
wait_timeout = 60
This will close open and idle database connections.
Default value is 28800.
It’s worth a try.
You have to restart the MySQL-Service after that.

Und Access Points nimmste dir wenn du es besonders einfach halten willst welche von AVM mit Mesh Funktion dann kannste alles simpel über die FritzBox steuern ansonsten tut es aber wohl auch jedes andere Mesh System.
Wenn du üppige Geldmittel hast und Enterprise brauchst kannste natürlich auch Ubiquiti AccessPoints nehme aber wird dann 5-6x so teuer.

Als Antwort auf Matthias Moritz • • •Eine Fritzbox wie die gute AVM Fritzbox 7590 möglichst zentral positioniert. Hohe Bandbreite deines Netzanbieters beugt zukünftigen Schwächen bei hoher WLan Netzauslastung vor.
Wenn die Fritzbox läuft, kannst du aus jedem Raum den Empfang messen (play.google.com/store/apps/det…) und evtl mit sogenannten Repeatern (Stichwort: Mesh) Reichweite und Empfang verbessern.

Du kannst nichts kaputtmachen. Schlimmstenfalls funktioniert es nicht so, wie du es dir wünscht.
Am allereinfachsten ist Netzwerken mit Kabeln, sog. Ethernet. Das läuft immer und überall. Nimm das, wo immer du kannst. Sobald Funktechnik ins Spiel kommt, gibt es immer mal kleine oder mittlere Probleme.

Als Antwort auf Matthias Moritz • • •AVM - Mesh System würde ich bei 15 Räumen von abraten. Bei solchen Unternehmungen ist Consumer - Hardware nicht zu gebrauchen.
Hier würde ich z. B. Netgear Orbi Pro empfehlen, da für Layen gut zu konfigurieren.
Die LAN - Vernetzung würde ich mit einem Modem und einem Mini - PC mit 4 Intel - LAN Ports machen. Für Firewall / Router kann man pfsense oder OPN-Sense benutzen. Dahinter einen Managed Switch mit POE+.
Projekte dieser Größe sind nichts für absolute IT-Layen.

Bei den günstigen Access Points bin ich auch eher skeptisch (sind immerhin 350qm im Keller).
Es sind übrigens keine it Leien am Werk , sondern nur Menschen die sich noch nie mit Netzwerkhardware befasst haben.

Orbi Pro verwaltet bis zu 80 Verbindungen.
Außerdem Verein. Du solltest schon eine Intrusion Detection bzw. Prevention haben. Eine professionelle Filterung der Webzugriffe, Logging, eventuell Proxy usw.
Entweder sowas wie eine Sophos Appliance mit WLAN - Verwaltung und die passenden APs von Sophos laufen und viel Geld lassen oder bei der Firewall sparen und selbst bauen.

Eine off-the-shelf lösung von AVM mag zwar erstmal sexy wirken, wird aber in dieser skalierungs-stufe defiitiv mehr sorgen und probleme verursachen als ein sinnvoll managebares AP netz. Das selbe gilt ebenfalls für den zentralen switch, hier muss es nicht das teuerste sein, aber ein paar wichtige grundfunktionen brauchts schon.
Was den uplink und das routing angeht.. Mhkay. "im prinzip" kann hier eine der größeren fritzen durchaus funktionieren. Ich fürchte aber auch hier das der zugriff von so vielen leuten den plasterouter an seine grenzen bringt..
Ein dedizierter NUC oder vergleichbares mit 2x GBit/s ethernet und ein separates modem sind da schon vorzuziehen. Speziell wenns dann auch ans firewalling geht usw. ;)
